Slain girl's grandmother wants caseworkers deemed 'reckless' | News, Sports, Jobs

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) The grandmother of a 2-year-old girl who was beaten and starved to death wants to file a wrongful death lawsuit against three caseworkers who oversaw the girl’s care, and has taken her case to the Ohio Supreme Court.
During oral arguments Wednesday, justices questioned the responsibility the state’s children’s service agency has for protecting children as its caseworkers investigate allegations of abuse.
The child prompting the case, Glenara Bates, weighed under 14 pounds almost half the recommended weight for a 2-year-old girl–when she died in March 2015, and Hamilton County authorities said she was beaten by her parents, with visible belt and bite marks among other injuries. ....

Charges held for court in case involving death of man who fell off vehicle roof

A West Virginia woman was held for Greene County Court on charges that she was driving drunk and responsible for the death of a passenger who climbed onto the roof of her vehicle while it was moving, fell off and died.
Kersten Zoe Kisner, 20, of Glen Easton had a blood-alcohol level of .108 when Ryan Lohr, 21, of Wind Ridge fell from the roof of her Ford Mustang at 1:20 a.m. Oct. 16, 2019 and was hit by another vehicle, state police contended.
Daniel Hevener told police he was driving eastbound on Route 21 in Franklin Township, Greene County when he saw Kisnerâs vehicle coming toward him. ....
