Matt hancock says offenders will face quicker prosecutions and staff will receive better training to deal with violent situations. Lauren moss reports. These are just some of the shocking incidents recorded against frontline nhs staff kicking, hitting and sometimes worse. Nurse Shelley Pearce was taken hostage when a patient became hostile, trying to leave the ward. She became quite distressed and broke an item in her room, which was, in hindsight, plastic. I knew it was plastic because a part of it ended up next to my neck as she frog marched me out of the ward. Shelley did escape unharmed, but says no one noticed she was missing and, despite her reporting what happened, it wasnt logged properly. Her account is by no means isolated.
