28ha solar farm proposed for north Kerry Alken Energy Limited is seeking planning permission to develop a 28ha solar farm in north Kerry. The company, who has applied to Kerry County Council for planning, is hoping to develop the project at Pallas, Kilfeighny South and Glanoe. The proposed development will be comprised of 143,469 (280,000m²) photovoltaic (pv) galvanised steel or aluminium panels on ground-mounted frames; along with 18 inverter/transformer stations; one solar farm substation; and a battery storage facility. The development would also comprise of underground internal electrical cabling; an upgrade of an existing site entrance; 100m of new internal access tracks; an upgrade of 2,550m of existing internal access tracks; 4,360m of perimeter fencing that is 2.8m high; CCTV cameras; landscaping; and the felling of approximately 24.3ha of coniferous forestry.

Planning is being sought for a solar farm in North Kerry covering almost 69 acres. The development also includes a battery storage facility. Alken Energy Limited has applied to Kerry County Council to build the solar PV farm and battery storage facility at Pallas, Kilfeighny South and Glanoe. The proposed development consists of almost 143,500 (143,469) photovoltaic galvanised steel or aluminium panels on ground mounted frames over 280,000 square metres. It also includes 18 transformer stations, one solar farm substation and a battery storage facility with 60 battery containers. It is planned to connect the development to the Eirgrid 110 kilovolt substation at Clahane. The developers are seeking to fell over 24 hectares of coniferous forestry, upgrade 2.5 kilometres of existing internal tracks and build 2.1 kilometres of new tracks.
