Manitoba continues to adjust its immunization plans in response to the ongoing reductions and delays in vaccine shipments to the province.
Manitoba has been told it can expect 3,510 doses of Pfizer next week and 15,210 doses the week of Feb. 15. Manitoba does not have any delivery projections for Moderna. To date, the Astra Zeneca vaccine has not been authorized for use in Canada, so it is unclear when this vaccine may be available for use in doctor’s clinics and pharmacies.
As part of the province’s plan to immunize residents in congregate living facilities, focused immunization teams (FITs) have provided first doses to residents in Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital, Gimli Community Health Centre, KeKiNan Centre in Winnipeg, Vita and District Health Centre and transitional beds at Gladstone Health Centre. To date, 41,817 doses of vaccine have been administered including 32,461 first doses and 9,356 second doses.
As of Jan. 31, Manitoba remains second in the country in the number of people who have received two doses of vaccine and are fully protected against COVID-19, at 616 people per 100,000.
Focused Immunization Teams (FITs) have now provided a first dose of the vaccine to every personal care home in the province. Final data is still being compiled, but as of Jan. 31, an estimated 8,112 eligible and consenting residents had received their first dose. FITs will return to all personal care homes to fully protect residents with a second immunization, beginning Feb. 8. Despite vaccine supply disruptions, all residents will receive both doses within the recommended window. ....
