The Boys and Girls Club of Washington County will remain closed for the remainder of this week following the sudden death of a staff member Monday evening.
Executive Director Rebecca Johnson confirmed the death of Garrett Scott, 25, of Marietta, on Tuesday noting Scott was not only the son of the club’s program coordinator Angela Scott, but also an asset to the club team in his own right.
“Our focus this week is supporting the youth while giving respectful space to the family,” she said. “He was our teen coordinator and just always up for any adventure, any fun trip with teens he and I were the first to jump at going.” ....

As summer nears, three Marietta summer camps will be available to keep children engaged, educated, and entertained.
The Ely Chapman Educational Foundation will host its annual Sensational Summer Camp from June 7 to August 13 ages 3-14. The ten week camp is $105 per week with scholarships available through the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS).
The camp will feature a different theme each week, and the children will have the opportunity to have hands-on experiences, work with people from around Marietta and travel to museums.
“For bugs’ life, we are trying to acquire butterflies and an ant farm,” said Lori Ullman, executive director at the Chapman Educational Foundation. “For the great space race, we have reached out to the Armstrong Air and Space Museum. The kids are going to be creating their own constellation and putting it in.” ....

PARKERSBURG The United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley has again exceeded its campaign goal, officials announced Tuesday.
The agency raised $1.115 million in the 2020-21 campaign, a remarkable figure in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic that impacted all segments of the community and hindered fundraising of non-profit groups for the past year. ....
