Around Town: Seasonal workers wanted this summer for annual O.C. Fair

The OC Fair & Events Center in Costa Mesa is looking for workers to help put on the 2021 O.C. Fair, hiring a number of seasonal, part-time positions across several departments.
Jobs include building exhibits to ticket-taking to customer service in departments including parking, security and admissions. Positions are also available for applicants interested in being a member of the maintenance team, landscape crew or janitorial group.
Applicants must be 16 years or older and be willing to take part in virtual interviews and orientations during this year’s hiring process. Hiring has already begun with other start dates staggered toward the operating dates of the O.C. Fair, from July 16 through Aug. 15. ....

It has been 11 months since the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus to be a pandemic, and during that timeframe, some of life’s simple pleasures such as personal relationships have faced stiff challenges.
Merry Tungka, a digital producer at Laguna Sound recording studio, recently lost her grandmother, Katherine, who she would ask what she should be when she grew up. The answer that came was to be kind and a good person.
With Valentine’s Day coming on Sunday, Tungka wanted to make a difference and bring a smile to kids’ faces, so she got some partners together to create gift bags for kids at the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach. ....

Around Town: Laguna Beach launches matching grant program for COVID-19 relief


The Laguna Beach City Council approved $1.4 million in assistance for businesses and the community, including a grant program called “LB Cares” to provide financial relief to local restaurants, bars and retail businesses.
The Boys and Girls Club of Laguna Beach is also assisting with application submission and the delivery of the grants, which will be paid out primarily by checks and gift cards.
“Right now, we are in the darkest days of this pandemic and hundreds of local workers and residents have been laid off again,” Laguna Beach Mayor Bob Whalen said in a statement. “They are stretched to the breaking point to pay their rent, keep their utilities turned on and feed their families. I urge our community to do what it always does in times of crisis which is to rise to the challenge and raise $300,000 to match the city funds. Please dig deep and give what you can to help the cause.” ....
