When wandering through flower gardens for the next couple of weeks, the blossoms people are going to see most are peonies. The flowers are big, bright and gorgeous.
Other than cutting a few to bring inside and watering the plants if our pattern of minimal rainfall continues, you can just enjoy them for a few months. ....

For the second spring in a row, I have found a baby turtle in my yard. Why would they be hatching in late March or early April? I see turtles laying eggs in the yard, usually in June. They come from a small pond and brook-fed wet area behind my house. The Saco River is across the street, but not within sight and about a quarter-mile away. This guy, I believe a snapper, appeared to be headed in the direction of the river. Thanks for any explanation you have. ....

100 Years Ago: 1921
Large audiences witnessed both performances of “Among the Breakers” at Thorne’s Corner Grange hall Monday and Tuesday nights. The two-act drama was presented by members of the grange and was handled in a manner worthy of actors of vastly more experience. The audience was very appreciative, it was clearly demonstrated by the frequent applause.

Mrs. Glen Lake, Mrs. Maura Leclair and Mrs. Lorraine Ouellette are collaborating in preparing a Variety Show to be presented at St. Mary’s Church parish hall on Friday evening, proceeds to benefit the Occupational Training Center’s work with the handicapped, which has its headquarters only a few yards away from the church. Mrs. Lake is director of the Auburn Senior Citizens Band which will play.
