Jain Clinches 4-3 Win Over No. 14 South Carolina
THE FLATS – Freshman Mahak Jain clinched the deciding match for No. 12 Georgia Tech women’s tennis on Saturday afternoon as the Yellow Jackets opened the ITA Kickoff Weekend with a 4-3 win over No. 14 South Carolina. All eyes turned to court six where the freshman battled to a three-set win, pushing Tech to 2-0 on the season.
DOUBLES ACTION – Wins on courts one and two put the Yellow Jackets up 1-0 following doubles play. Gia Cohen and Carol Lee gave Tech the edge in doubles, wrapping up first on court two. The pair won an early break to take a 2-0 lead and never looked back, securing a 6-3 win over Allie Gretkowski and Emma Shelton. STARKVILLE, Miss. – No. 12 Georgia Tech women’s tennis swept Memphis on Monday afternoon, 7-0, to collect its first win of the season. The Yellow Jackets and Tigers wrapped up the holiday weekend with a neutral match at Mississippi State.
DOUBLES ACTION – The Jackets (1-0) took the early match lead, winning the doubles point with victories from courts one and three. No. 5 Kenya Jones and Victoria Flores wasted no time, opening with a 5-0 lead over Sophie Abrams and Aran Teixido Garcia on court one. The Yellow Jacket duo sealed the win, 6-1. Monika Dedaj and Ava Hrastar clinched the point for Tech from court three. The pair opened a 5-3 lead over Josephine Cao and Claire Sullivan, and Hrastar served out the match for a 6-4 victory. Memphis grabbed its only doubles victory from the two spot as Katherine Cao and Alisha Reayer topped Gia Cohen and Carol Lee. Knotted at 5-all, the Tigers took the next two games to pocket the match, 7-5.
Jackets Post Strong Day at Bulldog Kickoff
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The 12th-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team posted a strong opening day at the Bulldog Kickoff, collecting six singles wins and a pair of doubles victories.
DOUBLES ACTION – The Jackets got the day started taking two of three doubles matches against Ole Miss. Tech’s No. 5 doubles pair of Kenya Jones and Victoria Flores opened with a 4-3 lead over Tereza Janatova and Sabina Machalova. Jones and Flores broke in the next game to grab a 5-3 advantage and served out the match for a 6-3 win. Gia Cohen and Carol Lee teamed up to face Ole Miss’ Kelsey Mize and Reka Zadori. The Rebels looked in control, grabbing a 5-3 lead, but the Jackets rallied to win the next four games and captured a 7-5 victory. Making their first appearance as Yellow Jackets, the tandem of Ava Hrastar and Ruth Marsh won break point against Lillian Gabrielsen and Elysia Pool to take a 5-2 lead. But the Rebels battled back to knot the match a
