Vilar offers robust schedule in March

Special to the Daily).
Out of the 31 days in March, the Vilar will host events, sometimes two a day, on 18 of those days. Talk about making up for lost time.
When Colorado abruptly shut down due to COVID-19 on March 14, 2020, the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek still had a full schedule of shows for the large spring break and Easter crowds that were scheduled to visit the Vail Valley. Those shows were all canceled, of course and the theater went dark.
In March of 2021, a full calendar bringing live music, adventure films, comedy and a classical quartet feels like a breath of fresh, spring Rocky Mountain air. ....

WILMINGTON  It’s been a busy few years for 24-year-old singer-songwriter Emily Roth. Aside from finishing her degree at UNCW and maintaining a career as a working musician, she and her boyfriend have been renovating a 110-year-old home in downtown Burgaw.
“It’s been really fun I’ve enjoyed it,” Roth said. “I’m not gonna lie: It’s hard though.”
The experience inspired the singer-songwriter to pen “You and Vinyl,” a song about getting home after a hard day’s work to find the respite of a record player and a loved one awaiting. The experience has been one Roth wanted to memorialize even during the roughest days of scraping walls and patching 10-foot ceilings.  ....

Latté Da opens virtual cabaret series with piece inspired by George Floyd Square

Copy shortlink:
While awaiting the start of Twelve Blocks From Where I Live, which is kicking off a cabaret series that Theater Latté Da describes as stories and songs in the meantime, I pondered the word meantime. Latté Da intends these virtual shows to entertain us until it s safe to gather for live theater, but there s no getting around the fact that the past several months have sometimes felt like a very mean time.
Twelve Blocks From Where I Live finds actor Regina Marie Williams shifting between the natural beauty she observed near her south Minneapolis home last summer and the ugly events that occurred the titular distance away on May 25, when George Floyd died at the hands of Minneapolis police. Throughout the half-hour program she also discusses the violence that occurred in response to the killing, but she seems inclined to focus on beauty: birds in flight, people feeding each other, peaceful protests. ....

Three of New England’s top emerging artists will take the stage for a special episode of the
The Ghost Light Series.
Jay Psaros,
Alice Howe will all perform Friday, January 22, at 7:30 PM on NECN.
Jay Psaros, a longtime resident of the Northeast was born into a family of the self-employed. As a result, his music has ebbed and flowed in and out of “where the work is,” so to speak. Crossing genres as needed and blending styles as desired. At 34 years old, Psaros has worked in a most peculiar musical landscape. His gigs have ranged from bar rooms, to medieval themed dinner theaters, to small clubs, house concerts, weddings, and everything in between. He has hustled as a booking agent, produced for other artists, written music blogs and even taught the occasional lesson. On the cusp of a decade in the music industry, the sweaty bars and medieval costumes have ....

When theater companies scheduled shows for spring 2021, it seemed like a worst-case scenario that they would be shuttered for up to a year due to the pandemic. But here we are, with those productions postponed again until it s safe to gather in theaters.
The good news is that many companies are finding ways to connect with audiences outside of their artistic homes. Whether it s plays filmed for presentation online, interactive experiences that start with a video and branch out into the world, readings of works that playwrights are still developing or productions created to be viewed in your home, Twin Cities companies have your back. ....
