COVID-19 Scared Us From Family Planning Treatment


 
Some adolescents in the Tema Metropolis on Monday disclosed that the fear of contracting COVID-19 prevented them from accessing family planning services last year.
Some adolescents told the Ghana News Agency at Tema that even though they used to patronize family planning clinics, they decided not to go for renewal for fear of contracting COVID-19.
“I did not come for the service because I was scared of contracting COVID-19 as I heard that some nurses and doctors at the hospital had been infected with the virus,” 17-year-old Nana Ama told the GNA.
Another adolescent girl said, “I was unable to see my boyfriend because of the restrictions especially during the lockdown and I, therefore, decided to abstain and not go for the family planning”. ....

GPHA Has Conducted 768 COVID-19 Test


 
The 768 COVID-19 tests, conducted by the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) between May 2020 and May 4, 2021, at the country’s port of disembarking (Off Signing) crew members, recorded 14 positives and 754 negatives.
“COVID-19 tests are conducted at the country’s seaport regularly, those who will test positive are treated at designated isolation and treatment centres and subsequently discharged,” Mrs Esther Gyebi-Donkor, GPHA General Manager, Marketing and Corporate Affairs stated in a statement issued and copied to the Ghana News Agency at Tema.
Mrs Gyebi-Donkor indicated that; “there are clear and mandatory procedures for the reception of vessels and handling of crew embarkation and disembarkation in Ghana, which all shipping lines and the Port Community is apprised of and are adhering to. ....

TUC Rewards 21 Workers For Their Sacrifices To Nation


 
The Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC) Greater Accra Chapter, has rewarded 21 workers for their sacrifices at the 2021 Regional May Day ceremony for their “exceptional duties and sacrifices they made to the Nation”.
They: Mr. Steven Nimo, Accra Branch Chairman, Industrial and Commercial Workers Union; Mr. John Abolatsi, Writer of Professional Humanitarian Sub- Union; Mr. Nicholas A. Akyaa, Health Service Workers Union; Mr. Martin Kofi Boateng, Public Service Workers Union; and Mr. God Fred Agyeman Boakye, Public Service Workers Union.

PNC Commends President For Gender Equality


 
The People’s National Convention (PNC) on Thursday commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for giving 26 per cent of representation to women in his newly Deputy Ministerial appointments as against 16 per cent of same, in his first term.
The PNC said the decision was a major step forward for gender equality and women’s empowerment in Ghana with direct implications for women’s broader engagement in national decision-making.
A statement signed by Ms Janet Asana Nabla, PNC General Secretary and copied to the Ghana News Agency at Tema said: “It is also a strong message to all women in Ghana-young and old, that the sky is not even the limit in their quest to greatness”. ....
