Oli faction cripples provincial assemblies to save two chief ministers Kathmandu Post Kathmandu, Feb. 22 On January 20, the winter sessions of Province 1 and Bagmati Province commenced. The meetings of the provincial assemblies were called because the constitutional provisions made them mandatory. As per the Constitution of Nepal, there cannot be a gap of more than six months between the two sessions of the assemblies. However, both the assemblies have failed to hold a single full-fledged meeting. The reason: The Nepal Communist Party faction led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli does not want it. Ever since Oli dissolved the House of Representatives on December 20, the Nepal Communist Party has split. One faction is led by Oli and the other by Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal. ....

PM was forced to dissolve HoR after leaders within NCP conspired to oust him from power: Rayamajhi My Republica BUTWAL, Feb. 13 Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Top Bahadur Rayamajhi has said that the government was forced to recommend the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) after sudden attempts were made to oust the prime minister from within the party. Addressing a meeting organised by Lumbini Province Committee of Press Organization Nepal, journalists association close to the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) in Butwal on Friday, Rayamajhi said that the Dahal-Nepal faction in the party created hindrances to the government by working against the spirit of party unification. ....
Government yet to fill teacher vacancies, even as decline in education quality is reported Kathmandu Post Kathmandu, Feb. 7 Several study reports prepared by the government suggest degradation in the quality of education at public schools over the years. Along with the lack of infrastructure, the reports have pointed out the unavailability of needed teachers to be the main reason behind the deterioration in quality. Yet, successive governments have paid no attention to recruiting teachers. There are 150,000 permanent positions of teachers in over 29,000 public schools across the country. However, according to the Teachers Service Commission, around 10 percent-13,000-of the positions are vacant as it has not been able to announce the vacancies for the last three years. The government has yet to appoint the chairperson and members to the commission. ....
