Heavy hitters heading to Airlie Beach Race Week

A trio of past Sydney Hobart winners in Geoff Boettcher, Darryl Hodgkinson and Phil Turner, along with yachting champion Marcus Blackmore, are among the heavy hitters heading north to race in the IRC Passage Division at the 33rd running of Airlie Beach Race Week, to be held from 12-19 August, 2021.
Boettcher has updated his boat a couple of times since winning the 2010 Rolex Sydney Hobart and will arrive with his latest TP52, which in keeping with the theme of his former yachts, is named Secret Mens Business (SMB). ....

New ORCV offshore series working a treat for father and son duo

Experienced yachtsman David Lynch and his son Andrew, newly initiated into the joys of ocean racing, have successfully sailed their Northshore 369 Pegasus into the lead of the of the West Offshore Products Coastal Sprint Series, hosted by the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria (ORCV).
The pair, who finished Race 3 in second place to Justin Brenan s Alien on the weekend, are co-owners of Pegasus. And while the duo has raced together one way or another for 40 years, Andrew is new to offshore racing, launching into it via the ORCV s new Category 3 series.
We ve had two boats. We co-owned an 11 Metre One-Design, Blue Tack, and now we have Pegasus. We ve been racing it together for two years, but this is our first offshore series with it, Andrew says. Dad was the teacher and me the pupil. It s a good father and son team. We have a good partnership and share the helm. ....

Carrera S, a Marten 49, skippered by Gerry Cantwell takes 1st on AMS and PHS plus line honours in the 2021 ORCV Port Fairy race in what Gerry sums it up, as a very challenging race. It wasn t a physical race and I must say and I don t think I ve ever had a race where the deck stay dried and was so comfortable. For the first few hours after the start, we found ourselves in a pack with Tevake II and Alien and it was frustrating trying to get away and find what breeze there was in the very light conditions. ....
