서울중앙지법 민사46단독(박강민 판사)은 A씨 등 72명이 대한항공을 상대로 낸 손해배상 청구 소송에서 원고 패소 판결했다.
A씨 등은 2018년 10월 19일 오후 7시40분(현지시간)쯤 독일 프랑크푸르트 국제공항을 출발해 다음 날 낮 12시55분쯤 인천국제공항에 도착하는 대한항공 항공편을 이용할 예정이었다.
하지만 대한항공 정비팀은 2018년 10월 10일 오후 7시10분쯤 여객기 점검과정에서 WHCU(Window Heat Control Unit) 장치에 경고 메시지를 발견했다. WHCU는 창문 표면에 성에가 끼지 않도록 적절한 열을 전달하는 장치다.
