They ll be outside the Limerick Street store at 11am as well as at Henry Street in Dublin, and in Cork, Waterford, Tralee and Galway. A year ago today around 100 Limerick workers were made redundant sparking a 365 day dispute. Almost 1,000 workers in eleven stores balloted for industrial action in an attempt to win their agreed redundancy package of four weeks pay per year of service. ....
Industry and Employment Correspondent Protests are taking place to mark the first anniversary of the liquidation of the Debenhams chain in Ireland which saw the loss of around 1,000 jobs. Over the last year, a group of former workers belonging to the Mandate trade union has been maintaining pickets outside the 11 stores. They are seeking enhanced redundancy terms of four weeks per year of service provided for under a 2016 collective agreement with their former employer - rather than the statutory minimum of two weeks’ per year of service capped at €600 per week. To date their campaign has secured a ring-fenced €3 million training and upskilling fund to assist the workers, but that was rejected on the basis that it failed to deliver cash payments. ....
