Nicholas Swazo, Guilty for the Murder of "Shiney" Tillett

Nicholas Swazo, the man who was on trial for the shooting murder of George Street gang boss, Gerald “Shiney” Tillett, was found guilty of the crime on Tuesday. The trial without a jury started almost three months ago before Supreme Court Justice, Antoinette Moore in the southern session, but Justice Moore had reserved her decision. During the trial, the prosecution called thirteen witnesses, three of whom were afraid to testify. So a provision was used to allow for those witnesses’ statements to be used as evidence in the trial. Gerald Tillett had been among a group of people who were socializing at Wadani Shed, a recreational spot in downtown Dangriga on the night of April sixteenth, 2016. According to eyewitnesses, Nicholas Swazo entered the establishment and opened fire on the unsuspecting Tillett, while he was playing cards. Owl is Shot Near His Home on Santa Barbara Street

There was another shooting incident in Belize City on Tuesday night that landed Justin Richards in the hospital with gunshot wounds to his body. The Santa Barbara Street resident was just a stone’s throw away from his home and was returning from a nearby shop when a hooded gunman pounced on him. Richards, known to many as Owl, was shot twice, including a gunshot wound to his side. His attacker then escaped towards Ebony Street in the direction of Central American Boulevard. News Five spoke with Richards’ sister this morning. While she declined an interview, she informed us that her brother remained in an unconscious state at the K.H.M.H. and was scheduled to undergo a surgery. The incident took place around eight-thirty p.m. and officers responding to the scene recovered several expended shells from the area. Seventeen-year-old Gerald Tillett Junior was killed in a cold-blooded shooting on Thursday evening as he rode his bicycle on Bagdad Street. The George Street resident, many say, was in the wrong neighborhood when he met his tragic end. Tillett, the son of a deceased gang leader who bears his namesake, was reportedly executed by eighteen-year-old Kalief Caceres in a hail of bullets. The murder, according to investigators, is gang-related. While police were on high alert pending a retaliation, a deadly fusillade on Saturday night claimed the lives of two men and injured a third. Police are yet to determine whether the two incidents are in any way related. ....
