A popular walking trail in Dresden has been temporarily closed due to problems with unleashed dogs. Trail developer Dave Probert said the loop trail near Pownalborough Court House has consistently had problems with dog owners failing to follow leash rules.
“The signs were thrown into the bushes,” Probert told selectmen at the board’s Tuesday, April 27 meeting. Probert said as many as 400 people per month had used the trail until it was closed last year.
“When the trail started it was good news,” Justin Parker told the board. But as the trail became popular, his Common Road property became swamped with traffic. “It became a headache,” he said. Parker, who raises hunting dogs, said his border collie had to fight off a larger dog who entered their yard. “We had to post our land,” said Patty Stewart

Upset by the prospect of a proposed 8.8 percent increase in school taxes, Dresden selectmen and some residents Tuesday, April 13 raised the prospect of rejecting the proposed Regional School Unit 2 budget or withdawing from the district.
“ We can vote it down,” said board member Allan Moeller. He recited the $186,400 increase selectmen learned of in a Zoom meeting the RSU 2 School Committee held the previous evening. “They need to go back to the drawing board,” Moeller added.
“They offered us no plan B,” said Administrative Assistant Mike Faass.
Moeller said selectmen were told if Dresden dropped out, it would save the district money. Enrollment in area schools had been dropping steadily, he said.

Dresden selectmen on Tuesday, Dec. 22 discussed the performance of the town’s snowplowing firm, Seabreeze. According to information Town Administrator Michael Faass provided, there were minor issues with four complaints over the last large snowstorm, but “nothing of serious note.” The board voted to release the December payment.
Due to difficulties with an HDMI cable, the board was unable to carry the meeting on Zoom.
According to Faass, Sherry Moody was appointed sexton of Forest Hill Cemetery. The board also reaffirmed authorization to use the services of town attorney Jessica Avery in the matter of Ballard Road Town Way.
