Trade in Space leader, Robin Sampson || The Herald
The United Kingdom, through the United Kingdom Space Agency (UKSA), is providing a £200,000 funding package for space research solutions across Africa. The funding is for five projects that will be selected by the agency to help create space solutions on global challenges. The University of Edinburgh has been listed as a beneficiary to help develop space solutions for Malawian farmers through land-use maps that show how their land is currently being used and help them plan for large-scale agriculture.
Speaking on the development, Amanda Solloway, Britain’s Science Minister, mentioned that “the UK’s space sector is flourishing and it is vital we give our most innovative space businesses and universities the right support to collaborate, share best practices and drive forward new ideas that could help enrich all our lives”. ....

New funding for innovative space tech to help solve problems on Earth
Through the UK Space Agency, the government is giving a cash injection to 5 projects specifically designed to bring together UK business expertise with universities to help build space solutions to global problems, on UK soil.
One of the projects, involving the University of Southampton, will use artificial intelligence to automatically detect buried archaeological remains on satellite imagery, providing construction companies with higher accuracy at an earlier stage. This will save them time and money during the planning permission process and help them to reduce their carbon footprint. ....

SPRINT backs UK five space tech projects

SPRINT backs UK five space tech projects
The UK’s Space Research and Innovation Network for Technology (SPRINT) – via funding from the UK Space Agency – is supporting five new space projects involving industry and university collaboration.
The universities involved are Edinburgh, Leicester and Southampton, and the startup companies are Absolar, ArchAI, Geospace Agricultural, Redshift, Trade in Space and XCAM.
The aims of the projects vary from using AI to detect buried archaeological remains on satellite imagery (ArchAI – University of Southampton) to using satellite analytics to track the greenhouse gas emissions from shipping fleets (Redshift Associates – University of Leicester).
The other projects include the use of AI to improve the accuracy of clean room monitoring for building critical space industry equipment (XCAM – University of Leicester), integrating satellite images, solar radiation and LiDAR with other data sources to provide organisations ....
