Despite Georgia trailing other states in its numbers vaccinated and COVID transmission still at a substantial level statewide, demand for the COVID-19 vaccine is dwindling and state and local agencies are adapting their vaccine clinics. The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency is pulling back on its eight mass vaccination sites including the one at Gulfstream in Chatham County. At the Gulfstream site, the weekly number of vaccines distributed dipped to 1,500 for the last week reported, a drop from a weekly high of 5,490 the prior week, according to a GEMA spokesperson. The site opened on March 17 with the ability to deliver up to 1,100 doses a day five days a week. It costs the state $417,000 a week to operate the site, meaning during the slowest week the shots worked out to a cost of $278 each to the state.
