Trooper First Class Chase Redner was struck on I-75 North in Clayton County, the Georgia Department of Public Safety said. He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died.
Both officers "began to experience respiratory distress and extreme fatigue. They were rushed to the hospital "suffering chest pain, chest tightness, dizziness and difficulty breathing," the warrant says.
The Georgia State Patrol reports that Deputy Timothy Tavarus Rivers, 40, was responding to a call to assist another officer around 10:09 p.m. when his patrol vehicle crossed the center line.
