Congressman Andy Kim backs federal funding of Joint Base overpass

A request for federal funding for the project to connect the Fort Dix and Lakehurst sections of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst has gone before a new committee.
U.S. Rep. Andy Kim (D-03) recently submitted an $8 million request to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure for the Route 539 overpass project.
The committee request, Kim said, is potentially a new path toward funding the critical infrastructure project.
“The trouble we’ve had before, there’s continued disagreement over who is going to pay for part of it,” Kim said. “It’s holding up a significant issue . I decided to try and come at this from a different direction.”  ....

Bordentown, Medford Lakes voters turn out for May municipal elections

Incumbent Dennis P. O Neill beat out Joseph Aromando 418 votes, or 70% of the total vote, to 170 votes, or 28% of the total vote, according to unofficial results. O Neill was appointed to the seat on the five-member council in February after the January death of borough mayor Robert D. Hanold Sr.

Burlington County to hold walk-in vaccination clinics across county

Burlington County to hold walk-in vaccination clinics across county
WILLINGBORO In an effort to get as many residents vaccinated as possible, Burlington County will be holding vaccination clinics across the county over the next several weeks.
The free clinics will be held in towns where vaccination rates may be lagging behind the county rate of 57% of residents with at least one shot. Residents will be able to make an appointment ahead of time, or just walk-in.
Statewide, and really nationwide, there is a waning of interest in vaccination, said Dr. Herb Conaway, Burlington County Department of Health director. We will start to move this vaccination process around on the theory that proximity will create interest and drive more into the vaccination process. ....

South Jersey native wins Academy Award for documentary short
A South Jersey native shared the spotlight with Hollywood’s biggest stars on the entertainment industry s most glamorous night.
Edgewater Park native and Holy Cross Prep Academy graduate Anthony Giacchino won Best Documentary (Short Subject) Academy Award on Sunday for “Colette.”
The short documentary, written and directed by Giacchino, tells the story of Colette Marin-Catherine, a surviving member of the French Resistance.
The documentary follows Marin-Catherine and a young student to the Nazi forced labor camp where her brother, also a member of the French Resistance, died.
When we were nominated, she reminded us that the power of documentary filmmaking ensured that her brother Jean Pierre was, as she put it, no longer lost in the night and fog of the Nazi concentration camp system,” Giacchino said in his acceptance speech.  ....
