The labour union of General Motors Company has urged the management to reconsider its decision to shut the Talegaon plant and either revive production till the unit is sold to GWM or keep it functional.

Workers union file multiple cases against General Motors in the Maharashtra Industrial Court


Synopsis
In one of these cases, the union has argued that a wage pact signed in 2017 required the service terms of workmen to be included in any future arrangement, including restructuring, of the plant at Talegaon near Pune. Hence, GM’s term sheet with Great Wall Motors should have included the transfer of workforce, the union claimed.

The planned closure of the GM India plant in Talegaon has hit another hurdle after the local government rejected the automaker’s request to shutter the facility.

The Economic Times, the industry minister for the Indian state of Maharashtra, Dilip Walse-Patil, turned down an application for GM India to close the Talegaon plant this week. GM pulled out of India in 2017, though the Talegaon facility remained open to continue production of vehicles for export.
