Lived in the la basin for centuries before it was claimed by spanish conquistador juan rodríguez cabrillo in 1542. in 1821, this land became part of mexico until the end of the mexican-american war in 1848 when mexico ceded 55% of its territory, including california, to the u.s. but trust me, los angeles still oozes all things mexican, and i couldn t think of a better person to welcome me to the real la than this iconic mexican american, native angeleno, george lopez. and guess what? he s taking me to east la, and we re eating at his favorite spot.
