Volunteering at the Petersburg National battlefield where he became a seasonal, worked there for a number of years and became a permanent historian. He has beenm there 14 years sharing this story which has largely been forgotten. The stories of the people affected by the presence of those armies has gone untold. Fortunately, emmanuel has brought that story to the forefront and is here to talk about one of the other enduring legacies of the war, the Freedmens Bureau.
