Borderline, disingenuous with a successful democratic president and the white house, who by all accounts is ready to run. to discuss this, i m joined now by alexi mccammond, a political reporter for axios, and douglas brinkley, best selling author and u.s. presidential historian. alexi, i will start with you. this is the thing that seems odd to me. whenever a story gets out, we always have to ask the question, who is leaking this, okay? but the white house obviously can t be leaking stories saying joe biden doesn t know if he s going to run. he s not aaron rodgers. he knows that he wants the job next year, right? are these leaks coming from people who want to replace him, or are they coming from other offices, or is just sets sort of the silly season where political reporters are coming up with stories for no reason? look, i mentioned that my line was not one of those stories, first, so not to face questions about the sourcing. but it s a bit of speculation, especially as that republ ....
I ve been mayor, there have been attempts to try to move us back to state control, which does not make us safer, because if you look across the state in kansas city, they have had rise in crime or rise in homicides in the past three years. they ve had their most three violent years on record. and this is not a knock on my brother, mayor quinton lucas, these are just the facts. so, this is one thing that i want people to also understand and context. you were elected in the wake of the sort of uprising in missouri, the killing of mike brown. and one of the things you ran on was smart policing. you are not trying to defund the police, which nobody ran on. you are not antagonizing police departments. you simply said, hey, there s a better way to do this. you have a policy here, you try to implement a new oversight plan, which means closer scrutiny of the police. ....
So, we are trying to address the root causes of crime, poverty, housing instability, substance abuse and the like. and we are trying to respond by alternatives to policing, deploying the right police will, the right resources to the right call. and standing up to violence prevention to make sure that we are coordinating all of our communities violence intervention programs. so, one of the things that anybody is concerned about when it comes to police is whether or not they can respond on time. and then, whether or not the case is that there are called to respond to our actually solved, handled properly. what would be the consequences, day in, day out, on a regular, i m a regular person. i love downtown. i may live near former st. louis, the arch, whatever. wherever i live in metro st. louis, what would be the consequence to my police service if the state were to take over the police and the city of st. louis? how would that affect regular ....
