Centre County woman accused of raking in more than $180,000 in fake lottery winning scheme

WILLIAMSPORT – A Centre County woman has been accused of being part of a conspiracy that duped people who thought they had won a lottery out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Mildred Hoy of the Bellefonte area was charged Wednesday in U.S. Middle District Court with conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud. She has signed an agreement to plead guilty and make full restitution.
Between December 2019 and January 2021 she is accused of persuading people who believed they had won a lottery to send her money to “unlock” their winnings. ....

WILLIAMSPORT A Port Matilda man was sentenced to 240 months’ imprisonment by U.S. District Court Judge Matthew W. Brann for receiving and possessing child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
The federal sentence will be served consecutively to a state prison sentence that Michael Dashem, 36, is currently serving.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, Dashem pleaded guilty in November 2020 to receiving and possessing child pornography. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pennsylvania State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Geoffrey W. MacArthur prosecuted the case. ....

WILLIAMSPORT A federal judge sentenced a Lock Haven area man to 30 years in a child pornography case, telling him that he was “a grave threat to the community.”
U.S. Middle District Judge Matthew W. Brann on Tuesday cited the need to protect children among the reasons he sentenced Michael S. Grenninger, 38, to the maximum jail term followed by 10 years of supervised release.
Grenninger had pleaded guilty in February 2020 to a charge of production of child pornography.
He admitted in July 2017 he engaged in internet chats with an undercover female Virginia state trooper he thought was 11-year-old Courtney. Two of the chats included pictures of his penis. ....
