Penei Sewell has signed his rookie contract with the Detroit Lions.
The tackle, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, has signed a four-year fully guaranteed deal worth up to $24.1 million, according to a report Tuesday morning. The deal includes a $14.8 million signing bonus and a fifth-year option.

Taumoepeau, the former Portland State Vikings’ star, was invited to as a tryout during the team’s rookie minicamp during the past weekend. The tight end impressed the Lions enough to earn contract.
The 6-foot-3, 245-pound Taumoepeau originally signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He was released at the team’s final cutdown, and he signed with the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad. He was cut two weeks later before signing to the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad.

Penei Sewell’s wait to join his new teammates on the Detroit Lions was extended a little longer.
Sewell, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft and former Oregon Ducks’ star, missed the Lions’ rookie minicamp during the weekend after recently testing positive for COVID-19. Sewell wasn’t able to participate in the three-day camp, which ended Sunday.
