PHOTOS – GOOD NEWS for Beatrice Makokha as Surgeons Successfully Removes Cystic Growth
Beatrice Makokha, a resident of Kamusinde in Kimilili Sub County who has been living with an abnormal growth on her face for over two decades, can now heave a sigh of relief after undergoing successful surgery.
The 68-year-old woman was last Thursday transferred from Bungoma County Hospital to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, where the surgery was performed.
A Multi-Disciplinary Team at the facility led by Maxillofacial Surgeon Dr. Francis Thuku removed the huge cystic growth on Monday, April 12.
The growth covering the right side of Makokha’s face had 3 litres of dermoid fluid not involving the brain.

As they scrubbed up their hands and donned surgical gowns ready for complex surgery, all that they wanted was to put a smile on the face of a 68-year-old patient.
The growth on Beatrice Nanjala’s face had deprived her of self-esteem for 24 years and the multidisciplinary team of medics at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) wanted to change all that.
Dr Francis Thuku, a maxillofacial surgeon, said the operation was unique due to the size of the growth, and complexity as it had covered her right eye, frontal bone, ethmoid and frontal sinus.
