MLC declares for General election to challenge two Ministers

Kate Lord-Brennan MLC has announced her intention to stand in 2021 House of Keys General Election standing for the Glenfaba & Peel constituency.
She was elected to LegCo in 2018 for a five-year term ending on February 28, 2023.
’The experience of being a member of the Legislative Council and a member of Tynwald has given me a considerable insight into the need for change in a number of areas.  
Current two sitting members in the constituency are Ray Harmer (Minister Cabinet Office) and Geoffrey Boot (DEFA Minister).

Hundreds more buildings considered for registered status

More buildings could be granted protected status before the end of the current administration.
It follows three sites being saved from demolition earlier this month after being deemed historically important.
Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Geoffrey Boot says there are arguments for hundreds more buildings to be preserved.

Gradual change since climate emergency declared, says Boot
The environment minister says the Island is experiencing a gradual change in reducing its carbon emmissions but it will accelerate.
It s after the Climate Change Bill had its third reading in the House of Keys.
A climate change emergency  was declared in the Isle of Man in May 2019.

DEFA aims to invest in large scale renewables scheme
Minister responds to Green Party call
The environment minister says he hopes government can buy into a large scale renewables scheme to address a mix of climate change challenges on the Island.
Geoffrey Boot was speaking after the Isle of Man Green Party called for his department to invest in solar technology for public housing and government buildings.
The Climate Change Bill went through its third reading in the House of Keys last week and will now be scrutinised by the Legislative Council.
Mr Boot says while solar panels are effective government needs to be addressing the issues to a bigger extent: ....

Hooper s plea for 2035 net zero target defeated
Climate change bill passes third reading
A bid to bring forward government s zero carbon emissions target from 2050 to 2035 was defeated in the House of Keys this week.
It s as members gave the Climate Change Bill 2020 its third reading.
Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper tried to bring forward the earlier target, arguing government needed to be more proactive in the face of the emergency:
 
 
Mr Hooper s amendment failed but other changes were made to the bill, which will now be scrutinised by the Legislative Council.      ....
