More areas under AFSPA to be de-notified when violence parameters come down — Lt. Gen. Kalita

Kolkata, Nov. 1 (PTI): Eastern Army Commander Lt. General R P Kalita on Tuesday said that more and more areas currently covered by AFSPA will be de-notified as violence parameters come down to an acceptable level in those places. Lt. Gen Kalita, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, also said that there has been a considerable drop in violence in the last nine months in the insurgency-affected areas of the northeast, leading to AFSPA de-notification from certain areas. The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) was withdrawn from several places in Nagaland, Assam and Manipur from April 1 this year. “This has been possible only due to sacrifice that has been made by the Indian Armed Forces in ensuring that violence parameters are brought down to an acceptable level,” he said, speaking to media persons after a wreath-laying ceremony at Fort William on the 102nd  Raising Day of the Eastern Command headquarters. Governor exhorts younger generations to draw lessons from 1971 war


ITANAGAR, 16 Dec:  Governor BD Mishra called upon the younger generation to draw lessons from the 1971 Indo-Pak war, which the Indian army fought with great valour.
Participating in an e-conclave on the historic 1971 Indo-Pak war, organized by the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) virtually on the occasion of ‘Vijay Diwas’ on Wednesday, Mishra said that “for India to become a stronger nation there must be
strong political will and leadership, coupled with full defence preparedness for armed forces to thwart any eventuality.”
The governor welcomed the free hand given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to defence forces in countering the recent misadventures by Pakistan and China on the borders. ....
