“特别适合作为建党100周年庆祝大会的主题创意！”田忠利说，“虽然之前我们也设计过其他几个创意，但最后还是觉得‘巍巍巨轮’，更符合大会的主题。”
如何把“巍巍巨轮”的描述转化为具体的设计，还有很多路要走。田忠利告诉记者，最难的挑战在于天安门广场是一个极为特殊的环境，有中轴线上的天安门、人民英雄纪念碑、毛主席纪念堂、正阳门，东侧有国家博物馆、西侧有人民大会堂，广场上的氛围，融合了历史性、政治性、文化性和人民性。所以在广场上设计的元素，需要和周围的景观气象相一致。
“就是要在体现仪式感的同时，将群众的参与感和艺术性、时代特征都表现出来。”
有巨轮就必须有海洋。在“巨轮”的外延，设计团队安排了十余处“海浪纹”的花坛。这样整体的设计，就把“巍巍巨轮”行稳致远的创� ....

庆祝大会首次放飞10万羽和平鸽 3小时内集齐
庆祝大会广场活动部放飞组和平鸽放飞工作指挥长 北京市信鸽协会秘书长 孙鹏：10万羽和平鸽全部是信鸽，鸽子种类也比较多，分家鸽、观赏鸽、信鸽，家鸽一般是不飞的，（我们）主要收的都是成鸽。成鸽是两年以上的信鸽，也都是参加过重大比赛活动的信鸽。这十万羽和平鸽有的还可以参加比赛，但是大部分都退役做了种鸽。
7月1日凌晨2点左右，满载10万羽和平鸽的16辆放飞车到达天安门广场。来自北京警察学院的70名放飞志愿者，就地休息等待。
7个多小时后，志愿者取下槽箱板、拉下闸锁，10万羽和平鸽分别从人民英雄纪念碑的东西两侧起飞，在空中集结，形成两个半圆对飞，飞至天安门城楼附近，盘旋几圈才最终散去，景象甚是壮观。其实这也是精心设计的结果。
