Students at Auburn University and Auburn University at Montgomery, or AUM, will not see an increase in tuition for the first time in at least 30 years.
Kelli Shomaker, Auburn’s vice president for business and finance and chief financial officer, said the fall 2021 tuition freeze was recommended as many parents and students are facing ongoing financial hardships from the COVID-19 pandemic, and the university received a significant increase in state appropriations for fiscal year 2022. ....

Professor to head Alabama Cooperative Extension System

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) An Auburn University professor will take over March 1 as head of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, which assists the state’s agriculture industry and others.
Mike Phillips, who teaches agronomy and has served since 2018 as an assistant director for the system, will replace Gary Lemme, who retired after a decade as director the service.
Phillips, in a statement released by Auburn, said he was honored to be named to oversee the system.
“The opportunity to lead in making the state a better place is very special, and I am passionate about it. Our Extension professionals are here to enhance citizens’ livelihoods and make communities a better place to live and work,” he said. ....

He could spend hours, if not days or weeks, chronicling his 56 years with what is now the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES). Chances are that he would relish every second of those opportunities.
Waddy, who is retiring as State Leader, Diversity & Multicultural Affairs for ACES, is enjoying a well-deserved opportunity for honor and reflection. On a recent January afternoon, he sat outside of Duncan Hall – the headquarters of ACES on Auburn University’s campus – and shared several tales with a small but captivated audience.
