(AP) Independence Day fireworks celebrations are returning in New Hampshire communities, but with some changes. In Portsmouth, the City Council voted to to hold the celebration on July 3, with a rain date of July 5. Last year s event was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. Seacoastonline.com reports City Manager Karen Conard said this year, there will be no entertainment, food or vendors “so as to discourage gathering. The Fourth of July fireworks display in Dover was moved to an area that will allow more of a 360-degree view for spectators, organizers said. ....
DOVER After a hiatus last year due to pandemic concerns, the city s Fourth of July fireworks show is scheduled to return this year. Dover is planning a smaller-scale celebration this year than in years past. Instead of the carnival-like atmosphere that draws crowds into downtown and Henry Law Park to watch the fireworks shot from Maglaras Park, the fireworks will be shot from atop Garrison Hill Park to give a more widespread view. There will not be any concerts or activities at Henry Law Park for the Fourth of July this year, which includes the absence of the New Hampshire’s Army National Guard 39th Army Band, a longtime staple of local Fourth of July festivities. ....
Two Seacoast Fireworks Displays Back with A Bang On the Fourth It s another sign of a return to the old normal: Fourth of July fireworks displays are being scheduled for this summer. It was a quiet Independence Day in 2020 as most displays were canceled on the Seacoast and around the country because of outdoor crowd restrictions. Some displays were postponed and others outright canceled due to social distancing protocols and concern about large crowds. This Independence Day it s a different story as gathering limits put in place during the pandemic in New Hampshire are scheduled to end on Friday clearing the way for firework displays. ....
By Ron Cole As we slip slowly out of another year, one unlike any other most have ever experienced, we enter a new year filled with uncertainty and yet promising positivity, we harken back to many things that have occurred in just a few months. Let’s recognize some of those folks and organizations. One thing that surprised and pleased many Dover drivers for a short period (for obvious reasons) was wicked cool (I’m not sorry for the pun). On the 18th of December, Dennis Hickey and Dave Soha of Ice Breakers Ice Carving of Manchester worked through the night to create a marvelous sculpture at the Rotary Garden at the head of Henry Law Park. Rudolph was sculpted as well as three chilly, but beautiful Christmas trees. The responsible organization is Dover Main Street and the most recent of the fun things they ve presented. Of course, the sculptures will last only as long as Mother Nature allows, but if you go to dovermainstreet.org, there is a video for you. ....
