Nearly 300 mourners attended St Mary’s Cemetery in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim on Thursday, to lay to rest a 22-year-old man who recently died in Britain. Members of the Travelling community in Carrick-on-Shannon and Longford town were joined by relatives living in Britain for the funeral of Davey Reilly which drew a large Garda presence to the town for the past two days. ....

A man allegedly found with 250,000 photographs of women and children taken in public places without their consent has been granted bail. Paul Boyle (43) of Sandyford View, Blackglen Road, Dublin 18, was initially arrested after a garda allegedly spotted him attempting to take a “personal” photograph of a young woman on the Luas in Dublin. A subsequent investigation and search of his devices revealed about a quarter of a million photographs which appeared to have been taken in workplaces and on public transport without the knowledge of the subjects, the court heard. ....

Two people have been arrested and more than 80 fixed penalty notices handed out following a Traveller funeral in Carrick-on-Shannon on Thursday, which attracted nearly 300 mourners despite Covid-19 restriction rules. Following the burial at St Mary’s Cemetery in the Leitrim town, large numbers went to a marquee on a local halting site, with some mourners breaking through a Garda cordon to get there. Principal of Scoil Mhuire in Carrick-on-Shannon, Caroline Healy, has written to the parents of her Traveller pupils, expressing sympathy on their loss, but reminding them to follow necessary precautions, including quarantine. ....
Gardaà have appealed to mourners planning to attend the funeral of George Nkencho on Saturday to abide by Covid-19 guidelines. Mr Nkencho (27), who was shot dead by gardaà outside his home in Clonee, Dublin on December 30 last, will be buried in Mulhuddart Cemetery following a service at the Church of the Sacred Heart Of Jesus in Huntstown. The service will be limited to 10 people in line with the Governmentâs Covid-19 restrictions. However, organisers are making plans to accommodate people planning to gather outside the church. This includes the deployment of stewards and traffic management measures. A planning meeting took place on Friday morning. ....

Central Bank director general of financial conduct Derville Rowland said on Tuesday that the regulator did not find any suspected criminal activity when investigating Davy for market-rules breaches. The organisation is obliged by law to report any suspected incidents of criminality to An Garda Síochána and the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement (ODCE) that it comes across. “I can confirm that in the course of this very meticulous and careful investigation, we did not form suspicion to support reports to other agencies,” Ms Rowland told the Oireachtas finance committee on Tuesday. Both she and the bank’s deputy governor, Ed Sibley, faced questions on the Davy scandal. ....
