The public, pummelled by the pandemic and consequent socio-economic despair, is being forced to pick from three versions about the Covid-19 vaccination drive. One from the central government with tall claims and heap of statistics, second from the chief ministers firing loud SOS signals of shortages and the third on the CoWin app the gateway, which is failing to provide the vaccine.
The assessment by experts from the experience of over 100 days of vaccination is that India is in for a long haul. In case the pace of vaccination against coronavirus doesn’t shoot up drastically and more vaccine candidates are not included, India could take another 3.5 years at the “current rate of lethargy” to inoculate 70 per cent of its entire population, a threshold required to achieve herd immunity. ....

Chennai, March 16 : Gandhians and family of freedom fighter Sardar Vedaratnam Pillai, the hero of the Vedaranyam salt satyagraha and close associate of C. Rajagopalachari, are elated over the AIADMK election promise of installing his life-sized statue at Tamil Nadu s Nagapattanam.
Talking to IANS, Pillai s eldest grandson, A. Vedaratinam, said: This is a great moment. We had petitioned all the political parties to erect such a statute in memory of the great Sardar Vedaratnam Pillai who had fought for the nation s freedom along with the legendary C. Rajagoplachari. We welcome the announcement made by the AIADMK that it will erect a life-sized statue of Sardar. ....

Ghaziabad: Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee on Saturday visited Ghazipur on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border to extend support to the farmers movement against the Centre s contentious farm laws, according to a BKU statement.
The 84-year-old Bhattacharjee, who is also the chairperson of National Gandhi Museum, exhorted farmers to remain peaceful in their protest and urged the government to take care of the farming community.
She was joined by Gandhi Smarak Nidhi chairman Ramchandra Rahi, All-India Sarv Seva Sangha managing trustee Ashok Saran, Gandhi Smarak Nidhi director Sanjay Singha and National Gandhi Museum director A Annamalai. ....
