Seven day figures published by Public Health Scotland showed that cases were slowing across the city but overall levels remained high. There were only two areas where the numbers were so low, between 0 and 2, shown as white on the map where the virus is considered suppressed in that area at that time. They were Langside, in the south and Central Easterhouse, in the east Another two had a rate of between 50 and 99 cases.
The two areas in Glasgow with the lowest Covid-19 cases in the New Year THERE were no areas in Glasgow where coronavirus was at the lowest level recorded in the official statistics, in the first week of the New Year. When positive tested cases are down to between 0 and 2 cases over seven days, Covid is considered to be suppressed at that time. Instead, the lowest in Glasgow for the first week of 2021, between January 2 and January 8, were those with a rate of between 50 and 99 cases per 100,000. There were just two of those, City Centre South, with 3 cases and Kelvingrove/University, with 4, shown as the light grey on the map.
The city however was lower than some other cities and council areas. Aberdeen City and Dundee were both higher at 166 per 100,000 each. While north and South Lanarkshire were also higher at 166 and 168, respectively. Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire were also higher at 179 and 164 respectively. East and West Dunbartonshire were lower than Glasgow at 121 and 124 respectively. The area in Glasgow with the highest number of positive tested cases in the week up to Christmas was Darnley West with 38 positive cases reported. It had a positivity rate of higher than 400 per 100,000. The other highest areas were Darnley North, with 19 and Carnwadric West with 18. The here highest areas are shown as the darkest shade of purple on the map.
