Coronavirus: The Glasgow areas where cases remain high as numbers fall The drop in positive coronavirus tests in Glasgow has slowed but case numbers continue to fall. The latest weekly statistics show that up until last Friday, February 19, there were 856 new positive cases reported in the city. It is a reduction of just 45 from the previous seven days. It is however yet another fall and is around half of the number recorded four weeks ago on January 22 when it was 1699. The rate of positive tests measured as per hundred of population dipped accordingly form 142 per 100,000 to 135. It remains above the overall Scottish figure of 103.9 per 100,000, with 5676 cases over the latest seven-day period.
The city however was lower than some other cities and council areas. Aberdeen City and Dundee were both higher at 166 per 100,000 each. While north and South Lanarkshire were also higher at 166 and 168, respectively. Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire were also higher at 179 and 164 respectively. East and West Dunbartonshire were lower than Glasgow at 121 and 124 respectively. The area in Glasgow with the highest number of positive tested cases in the week up to Christmas was Darnley West with 38 positive cases reported. It had a positivity rate of higher than 400 per 100,000. The other highest areas were Darnley North, with 19 and Carnwadric West with 18. The here highest areas are shown as the darkest shade of purple on the map.

Coronavirus cases continued to fall slightly across Glasgow in the seven days before it was announced the city would go back into level four on Boxing Day. For the week up to Friday December 18 the number of positive cases recorded in Glasgow was 911, a decrease from 938 the week before and from 976 the week before that. The rate of positive cases per 100,000 another key indicator for allocating council areas into levels was 143.9, down from 148.2 from the previous week The test positivity rate, the percentage of those tested who get a positive result, was however 6.3%, which is above the 5% level where the World Health Organisation says the virus is suppressed.
