GALION AREA NOTEBOOK Civil Service Commission meeting The Galion Civil Service Commission will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 3, 2021 to certify scores for Patrol Officer and also to discuss holding an MEO 1 exam. The meeting will be held at City Hall. Park District special meeting The Crawford Park District Board of Park Commissioners will be holding a special meeting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 4. The meeting is to discuss financial matters within the Crawford Park District budget. The meeting will take place at the Lowe-Volk Park Nature Center, 2401 State Route 598, Crestline. Life briefs: AU PA program, Pioneer and more Mansfield News Journal New AU physician assistant studies program earns provisional accreditation ASHLAND - Ashland University’s new physician assistant studies program passed a significant milestone en route to its fall 2021 debut with news the program has been granted provisional accreditation status by the commission that oversees PA education in the United States. The first cohort of 24 students will begin the program this fall, attending classes during the first 12 months of the program and clinical rotations the second 12 months in order to earn a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Applications for the 30 seats available in the 2022 cohort opened April 29. Going forward, cohorts of 36 students will be admitted. Life briefs: Educational honors and more Bucyrus Telegraph-Forum GALION – The Galion City Schools Board of Education recognized Treasurer Charlene Parkinson during its April meeting. Parkinson and her office are the recipients of the Ohio Auditor of State Award, which is presented annually by Ohio Auditor of State Keith Faber, for excellence in financial reporting for the fiscal year ended 2020. Galion Middle School eighth grade student Cohen Pierce also was honored during the meeting. Pierce performed well in local spelling competitions and qualified for the Scripps Ohio Regional Spelling Bee in March as one of the top 50 spellers in the state. ....
