After a month of periodic updates about the March 5 election, the Santa Cruz county clerk officially certified the voting results Tuesday with Measure M failing to gain the majority vote and the citywide sales tax increase, or Measure L passing into law.
After a voting tally update from the Santa Cruz County Clerk Tuesday afternoon, the outcomes of races for Santa Cruz City Council and the two ballot initiatives M and L seem unlikely to change with further updates.
"No surprises in Tuesday’s primary election, but some intriguing choices set up for November," writes the Editorial Board. "That Democrats swept through local legislative contests was totally expected. None of the races were competitive, even though these races will reprise in the Nov. 5 general election because of California’s Top 2 voting system."
