Gorakhpur: After supporters of two district panchayat member election candidates staged massive protests and set afire a police post alleging anomalies in counting, Gorakhpur district magistrate supervised booth-wise matching of votes and declared revised results and also ordered action against the returning officer.
On Wednesday afternoon, two candidates, Ravi Nishad from district panchayat ward number 60 and Kodai Nishad from ward number 61 had claimed they had won the election with over 2,000 votes but the certificate of victory was given to Gopal Yadav for ward number 60 and Ramesh aka Gabbar Yadav for ward number 61.
The candidates and their supporters alleged anomalies and staged protests that went on till late evening. ....

The supporters of two unsuccessful Zila Panchayat candidates Wednesday accused the administration of bias, and staged violent protests by pelting stones at a fuel station and setting a police post afire, officials said.
They also surrounded the Brahammpur block during their protest, they said.
