Sherrard man charged in shooting of neighbor s dog Josh Lamberty Replay Video UP NEXT A Mercer County man is facing a felony animal cruelty charge after allegedly shooting his neighbor s dog. Blazer, an Australian Sheppard, lives with his family in the Fyre Lake community in Sherrard. On Friday, April 16, 2021, at about 2 p.m., Blazer was out in the driveway. One of his owners, Janson Bender, was inside their house. My son got off the school bus and noticed that our dog Blazer was limping and just didn t quite look right, Bender said. Michael Elsbury, who lives on the same street as Bender, is charged with shooting Blazer with an air rifle, according to Mercer County court records obtained by News 8. ....

Visitation for teen shot, killed while driving Dylan McCalester died Tuesday, Dec. 15 from a gunshot wound to his chest. He was 16-years-old and a Junior at Sherrard High School. A visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 22 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory in Milan, Illinois. Online condolences can be left for the family on the Wheelan-Pressly website. Social distancing, face masks and capacity limitations will be monitored by funeral home staff. A private, family funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday and can be viewed here. McCalester will be buried in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. ....

CALA SMOLDT Braetan DeHamer, a 17-year-old Sherrard High School junior, loves bringing joy to those who stop to see his Christmas lights display at his Fyre Lake home. Heâs using it as a platform to collect charitable donations. Last weekend, 30-40 cars came through and left donations for Humility Homes Services in Davenport, Amber Ridge Assisted Living in Moline, Rock Island County Animal QC Paws Shelter and New Kingdom Trailriders. Each organization is important, DeHamer said, but New Kingdom Trailriders is a cause especially close to his heart. âIâve seen kids that werenât able to talk â in a couple weeks they learned how to say a couple words,â DeHamer said of the work done at New Kingdom Trailriders, a therapeutic horseback riding program for children and adults with social, emotional and physical disabilities in rural Sherrard. ....
