Fa side Community Kitchen looking for new members | East Lothian Courier

Fa’side Community Kitchen delivers meals to more than 500 people every week. It aims to support the community to alleviate the pressure of food insecurity and food poverty, reduce isolation and relieve hardship, working alongside community partners to do so. To do this, it delivers fresh meals to those in need and offers activities that will improve people’s mental health. The community kitchen was set up last year following the work of Duncan McBride and Joyce Thomson, who cooked about 20,000 meals during the first lockdown last spring as part of Tranent’s resilience effort in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

New community pantry opens in Tranent to help people in need

A NEW community pantry has opened in Tranent town centre. Based in the Volunteer Centre East Lothian (VCEL) office on High Street, the new pantry aims to “complement” East Lothian Foodbank – which is also based in the town – by providing food and essentials to those in need. Those who use the pantry will have access both to public donations and also to surplus supermarket food from Fareshare. Both fresh and frozen items are available, alongside dried food and toiletries. Launched on Monday, November 30, the community-run pantry is free, open to all and no referrals are needed. It is open Monday-Friday, 9.30am-noon.
