DVIDS - News - NOSC New Orleans Sailor Receives Exceptional Military Victim Advocate Award


FORT WORTH, Texas (Apr. 22, 2021) – A Full-Time Support staff member assigned at Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) New Orleans was recently selected as the sole recipient of the 2021 Exceptional Military Victim Advocate Award for outstanding contributions supporting service members and dependents.
Hospital Corpsman First Class Patrick Kilcline, from Kokomo, Indiana, received the news of his selection by the National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) Board of Directors and staff in a congratulatory letter earlier this month.
“I was surprised,” said Kilcline. “I really didn’t expect it. To be honest, I’d say I was just doing my job. I don’t think I’ve done anything extraordinary besides just staying current and competent.” ....

DVIDS - News - The Saga of USS Kidd: A Look Back at the Historic Deployment of Jacksonville's Rapid Response Team

In April 2020, the Naval Hospital Jacksonville deployed a special diagnostic unit to the guided missile destroyer USS Kidd (DDG-100), then in the throes of a shipboard outbreak. The team comprised of two medical officers and five corpsmen was referred to as the “Rapid Response Team,” and for good reason. Within a mere three hours this team was both conceived, assembled and deployed on a mission to conduct COVID-19 diagnostic testing at sea. To date it is the only deployment of this type of platform in the history of the Navy.

On the morning of April 23, 2020, Comdr. Michael Kaplan was starting his day as the Director of Medical Services at Naval Hospital Jacksonville when his commanding officer, Capt. Matthew Case, alerted him of an outbreak aboard USS Kidd, then conducting counter-narcotic operations with the 4th Fleet. ....
