Dave Grohl, Greg Kurstin cover The Velvet Underground for final Hanukkah Sessions episode

Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin have taken on ‘Rock & Roll’ by The Velvet Underground for the final instalment in their Hanukkah Sessions series.
The Hanukkah Sessions saw Grohl team up with the Foo Fighters producer to cover eight songs by Jewish artists, one for each night of the holiday period.

As with all previous covers, the duo’s rendition of ‘Rock & Roll’ saw Grohl responsible for vocals and drums with Kurstin on keyboards/piano. Watch the performance below:
‘Rock & Roll’ originally appeared on The Velvet Underground’s 1970 record, ‘Loaded’. In the description of his cover’s YouTube upload, Grohl called the track “a song about music and hope”. Grohl said it has been music and hope that “have gotten [him] through this year”. ....

“Tonight we’re featuring 4 nice Jewish boys whose biggest hit was a song about a nice Jewish girl… ‘My Shalom-a’ or something like that…” Grohl joked in the explainer for the seventh cover in the series, which sees them take on The Knack’s song ‘Frustrated’.

In celebration of the Festival of Lights and, let’s face it, a new Foo Fighters LP, Dave Grohl and producer Greg Kurstin have cranking out covers of songs by Jewish artists with The Hanukkah Sessions, an eight-part YouTube series.

On night one, Grohl channeled his inner Gremlin for an appropriately high-pitched take on the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage,” and the project has only gotten more fun from there.
Next came a straight-faced performance of Drake’s “Hotline Bling,” complete with awkward dance moves.
Night three unwrapped an of-course-they-did cover of Mountain’s “Mississippi Queen.”
And, most recently, Grohl and Kurstin honed their Britpop chops for Elastica’s “Connection.” ....

Through ‘Hannukah Sessions’, Grohl and Kurstin aim to cover eight songs by Jewish artists this month – one song for each day of the holiday season.
“This year, instead of doing a Christmas song, Greg and I decided to celebrate Hanukkah by recording eight songs by eight famous Jewish artists and releasing one song each night of Hanukkah,” Grohl explained of the project last week.
“With all the mishegas of 2020, Greg Kurstin & I were kibbitzing about how we could make Hannukah extra-special this year,” he added in a tweet.
