Updated: 3:06 PM EDT April 12, 2021 SUMTER, S.C. Litter continues to plague South Carolina streets, homes and roadways, after the pandemic put a pause on many clean up efforts. Sumter County is hoping to tackle the issue with community clean-up days. According to Sgt. Kaynnera Capers with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, they’ve partnering with the city and communities across the county to send a message, “trash of any kind won’t be tolerated.” “This was a vision of the sheriff,” Sgt. Kaynnera Capers said. “He’s very tired of the trash all over the county, so he wanted to do something big as a unified event with Sumter city.” ....

Steven Miller “Everybody has a duty and a calling and these officers, they literally stepped in and, I don’t know if they have kids or not, but they really helped my daughter,” Haynes said. “They got me to the hospital in time that they were able to stop labor.” Haynes reached out to News19 to try to meet some of the people who helped. On Wednesday, she had the chance to say thank you to each of the officers. “You guys have a calling to do what you do, so I really appreciate it,” Haynes said to the men. ....

On July 30, 2020, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) launched its Mars 2020 Mission featuring rover named Perseverance. The rover s mission is to seek signs of ancient life and collect samples of rock and regolith (broken rock and soil) for analysis and possible return to Earth. On Feb. 18, 2021, Perseverance touched down in the Jezero Crater on Mars, along with the Mars Helicopter Ingenuity. Together, the research machines have been gathering samples and data from the Red Planet for an Earthbound team of scientists. ....
