resources of the federal government to try to dig up dirt or investigate the bidens. that s simply it s wrong. it s inappropriate. it s frngly i don t know if it s criminal or not. but this is a major problem. i served as chairman of the house ethics committee. i ll tell you, if these sorts of things were brought up about a member of the house using his office for these purposes, this would have triggered immediate investigation and probably a referral to the department of justice at some point. here is the numbers because cnn did the legwork reached out to 60 sitting republicans senators and members of congress. those in the senate there. also many members of the house and we asked a simple question. is it okay for the president to ask the president of chf authoritarian china to investigate an american, joe biden? and there was silence there. paul begalla they are looking at the numbers, looking at local constituent support for the president and determining that this is politica
you don t need to worry about it. look, you know, i think barack obama and the obama administration accomplished extraordinary things, particularly given the resolution made by the other side to stop him at all costs. that s right. and they made that decision because they recognize the power of the politics of hope and change. they recognized it. and they understood in a very sophisticated which in some ways better than we did that if they didn t shut that bad boy down then, it was going to be big big trouble for a long time. yeah. so i think, yeah, i m disappointed by the tone today. but the level of engagement, the fact that people are engaged and paying attention i think is terrific. and frngly i think that has always contributed to the numbers of incredibly talented candidates. that s right. who stepped up. one of the things that is engaging people a lot is the politics of race on all sides.
state of the union, made the d-day speech. when he sticks to a speech, you know, maybe just as a writer i m a little bit more alert to this, it reminds you that his in the business.e not the best - other presidential speech writing teams have been better. george w. bush had a great speech writing team if you read the speeches. bill clinton, barack obama, these speeches are sort of a little lo lo. ruddmentry. basic. sometimes it seems he is reading a wikipedia page about historical events. on this date this happened. a lot of jokes on twitter and elsewhere seems like a schoolhouse rock version of history or seventh or 8th grade research report. but, you know a little bit of credit for not for not going off on a lot of sort of luna a tick tangents which frngly. any. he didn t go off on any
cohen. the things that we are talking about is all centered around the scandals that this president and his administration and his family started when they came into office. or frngly started during the campaign. this is a president of the united states that campaigned on that he was going to be you know so much better, that you can t you can t elect the other person because imagine how many scandals there would be if hillary clinton was in office. i m happy to debate tax reform regulatory reform all the good things right i m happy to talk about all the good things, the jobs report. all of those things weekend debate that all night long. you can t because the president of the united states the from the moment he went on to the scene on the campaign scene he has not been able to either follow the law to tell the truth, and to be you know civil and to be somebody who was actually fit for the presidency. ann just on a factual thengs do you know how many people would have access to
who won an election in hungary is blaming the migrants. i have to say here in the united states there is the sense that we don t want immigrants. i think you and i have a lot in common. but one is we come from somewhere else. and i do think to see immigrants as a threat and undermining what is so great about our country is diversity. but if you are looking for a scapegoat it will be somebody coming from a different place. and that s worrisome. you say in the book at one point i think in the conclusion, you say there are some people who might read this and say it s alarmist. you re right. it is alarmist. well, it is a warning. and i figure the following thing. i am in my 80s. and i do have have seen an awful lot. and frngly you ve known me a long time. it took me a long time to find my voice. i didn t have a high-level job until i was 55 years old. i m not going to shut up, frankly, because i have learned a lot.
