OSWEGO â The Friends of the Oswego Public Library welcomed Miranda McDermott, newly appointed director of the library, who joined the Friendsâ March zoom meeting. McDermott says she is excited about the opportunity to lead the library with its long history serving the people of Oswego. She is anxious for the time when the library can be fully reopened and hopes to take part in all of the Friendsâ events once those can resume. The new director comes to Oswego with 17 years of library experience including work in the New York City Public Library System. She has also worked in the Philadelphia area where she served as a synagogue librarian, a preschool librarian, a music school librarian, a banking association librarian and a medical communications librarian. She also managed a small urban public library in Upper Darby, Pa. McDermott received her degree in library science from SUNY Albany. ....
Friends of Merrymeeting Bay to host Zoom event about Maine’s sea run fishes The event will feature research biologists from the Department of Marine Resources. Share Friends of Merrymeeting Bay’s second presentation of their 24th annual Winter Speaker Series, Searching for Smelt: Citizen Science & Maine’s Sea Run Fishes, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, via Zoom. It will feature Claire Enterline and Danielle Frechette, research biologists with Maine’s Department of Marine Resources. This is the conservation organization’s second ever virtual meeting presentation. According to a news release from the organization, just as serious cold bites Maine, and smelt camps finally hit the river ice, days are lengthening and it’s important to remember spring is just around the corner, and it’s not just mud season.
