south don t know how to drive in it. reporter: home depot kept 14 area atlanta stores open overnight to offer shelter to stranded drivers. those dangerous conditions in the southeast could get worse before they get better. another wave of bitter cold is on the way. let s check in with accuweather meteorologist jim dickey. good morning, jim. good morning, marci and ryan. our storm slowly departing as we head through the morning hours. it will take the ice and snow with it. already seeing improvements across the deep south and in the florida panhandle. you can see how far south the freezing rain is falling. indications, freezing rain falling in northern mexico. the heaviest of the snow, in eastern north carolina. southeastern virginia, coming down heavily at times. but even here we ll see it improve through the morning. the area of low pressure departs out to the north and east taking the ice and cold with it. the cold filters in. most spots held below freezing. not much chance for
issues across the south and even right now we re still feeling some drizzle into sub freezing and not shown on the radar there and further to the north and east that s where the bulk of the leftovers is across parts of north carolina where a mixture of sleet and freezing rain is falling there and then into the delmarva seeing snowfall develop. the other system we were talking about, seeing the snow across parts of indianapolis and louisville and just south of chicago. those two will meet up and converge into the northeast and let s look at what that track how that s taking shape across parts of the northeast. it will ride the i-95 corridor but it stays offshore and everybody gets snow north of baltimore, d.c. here s how the numbers shake out. four to eight inches expected in philadelphia. six to 12 expected in new york city. 9 to 15 expected in boston. that doesn t include the wind so winter storm warnings poested.
