In addition if i had no such reasons at all to be happy about the form of the greeting and the introductions and all here tonight, i could be grateful because every once in a while, being introduced, i get selfconscious when they begin to introduce me and start mentioning the pictures that ive been in. Now, i dont mean that im ashamed of them, but everyone whos been around hollywood for any length of time has been in some movies that the studios didnt want them good, they wanted them thursday. And ive had my share, but in the old times, you usually could count on the passing years making you forget those pictures. Now you just stay up late enough at night in front of the tv set and it may come back

Chairman mccormack, my fellow americans, i accept your nomination. I accept the duty of leading this party to victory this year. [applause] and i thank you, i thank you from the bottom of my heart for placing at my side the man that last night you so wisely selected to be the next Vice President of the United States. I know i speak for each of you and all of you when i say he proved himself tonight and that great acceptance speech. [applause] and i speak for both of us when i tell you that from monday on he is going to be available for such speeches and all 50 states. [applause] we will try to lead you, as we were led, by that great champion of freedom, the man from independence, harry s. Truman. But the gladness of this high occasion cannot mask the sorrow which shares our hearts.
