Views: Visits 5 The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) have agreed to share data on import and export points for analysis on the contributions of the Free Trade Zone Scheme to the national economy. The two agencies have put in place a technical committee to drive the process hoping the collaboration will ensure proper decision-making. The collaboration was reached yesterday when the NEPZA Managing Director, Prof. Adesoji Adesugba, paid a courtesy visit to the Statistician-General, Dr. Yemi Kale in Abuja. Adesugba explained that the partnership was aimed at assisting the authority to define both the import and export data points for analysis. Kale said the bureau was set up to monitor indices of the productive sector, adding that any proposal aimed at achieving that would be appreciated.

The Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority and the National Bureau of Statistics have agreed to partner to enable the agencies share relevant data on import and export points and gauge the contribution of the Free Trade Zone Scheme to the national economy.
According to a statement on Thursday by the Head, Corporate Communications, NEPZA, Martins Odeh, the agreement was reached when NEPZA’s Managing Director, Prof Adesoji Adesugba and the the Chief Executive Officer of NBS, Dr Yemi Kale, met at the bureau’s headquarters in Abuja, on Wednesday.
The statement was titled ‘NEPZA, NBS to share data on import, export, FDI, employment generation.’

The Managing Director/ Chief Executive, Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), Prof. AdesojiAdesugba has said the federal government is committed to using the Free Trade Zone Scheme (FTZs) to reduce high unemployment in the country.
He added that the establishment of industrial hubs in various strategic locations has the capacity to gradually tackle widespread insecurity.
Adesugba, made the remark when Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, the District Head of Kerate, Kankara, Katsina State paid him a courtesy in Abuja.
He pointed out that President MuhammedBuhari is quietly but diligently repositioning the country’s economic zones free trade to contribute significantly to both National Domestic Product (NDP) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
