President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) on Saturday visited the Chi-hai (Seven Seas) Residence, the former home of Chiang Ching-kuo (蔣經國), son and successor of Chiang Kai-shek (蔣介石).
She was there in her capacity as head of state to attend the opening of the Ching-kuo Chi-hai Cultural Park and the Chiang Ching-kuo Presidential Library.

Ma praises Chiang Ching-kuo at opening

Former president Chiang Ching-kuo (蔣經國) showed his greatness in ending martial law despite his background and connection to the authoritarian government, former president Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) said yesterday at the opening of a park in honor of Chiang.
The Ching-kuo Chi-hai Cultural Park (經國七海文化園區) in Taipei’s Dazhi (大直) area includes Chiang’s former home known as the Seven Seas Residence (七海寓所) and the Chiang Ching-kuo Presidential Library.
It is the first library dedicated to the commemoration of a president in Taiwan and holds great historic and cultural value, Ma said.

Academia Sinica yesterday held a ceremony marking its reception of more than 200 boxes of historic documents from retired diplomat Frederick Chien (錢復), including documents formalizing the severing of diplomatic ties between Taipei and Washington.
Chien, 86, is the chairman of the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange.
He served in government positions from the 1960s to 2005, with his key postings including Executive Yuan government information office director, representative to the US, minister of foreign affairs and Control Yuan president. ....
